Try connecting a jump lead from the negative terminal of the battery or somewhere on the body to somewhere on the gearbox casing and see if it makes a difference. The bolt in question is tucked away under the battery tray and you will have to remove the tray to get to the bolt. Alec, before launching into a clutch job, try an extra earth lead (jumper) between the gearbox case and the body or battery -ve. If it comes good, suspect an earth under the battery tray and also on the gearbox.
